Feeling lost in the language of cruising? Here’s your cheat sheet to sounding like a seasoned cruiser.

• Embarkation: Boarding the ship (aka day one excitement).
• Muster Drill: Mandatory safety briefing — quick and easy.
• Port: The left side of the ship (when facing forward).
• Starboard: The right side of the ship.
• Tender: A smaller boat used to reach shore when the ship can’t dock directly.
