Cruise Lingo for First-Timers: Speak Like a Pro Before You Sail
Feeling lost in the language of cruising? Here’s your cheat sheet to sounding like a seasoned cruiser.
- Embarkation: Boarding the ship (aka day one excitement).
- Muster Drill: Mandatory safety briefing — quick and easy.
- Port: The left side of the ship (when facing forward).
- Starboard: The right side of the ship.
- Tender: A smaller boat used to reach shore when the ship can’t dock directly.
- Sea Day: A day spent entirely onboard (no port stops).
- Lido Deck: Usually the pool deck — aka your sun-soaked hangout.
